This is probably going to be one of the most important choices that you would be making for your hair! Yes, choosing a hair colour shade is not an easy task, especially if you are going for a complete make over. Too many suggestions from friends and other people will only confuse you more! So, here are some easy tips for you to keep in mind while choosing a hair colour for yourself:

Planning your new look:

  • Think about how drastic you would like your colour change to be. Are you just looking for a slight change or you would want a complete new look?
  • Start collecting physical and digital pictures of hair colors that you like. Saving such pictures would help you and your stylist to understand the hair colour you want to go for better.
  • Think about how often you are willing to get root touch ups as well. If you are going for a dramatic change like from a blond to a brown, you are going to need regular touch-ups. While, if you are doing only streaks or one shade darker than your natural shade, you would not need to worry much about its maintenance.

Keep in mind your Natural Colouring!

  • Check your veins to determine your skin tone. The colour of your veins can help you determine if you have warm or cool skin colouring. Stand somewhere outside with lots of sunlight and try to see what colour your veins look like through your skin: If your veins look like they are blue, then your undertone is cool. If your veins look like they are green, then your undertone is warm.
  • Do not forget considering your eye colour. It is a very important part of your face that goes hand in hand with your hair colour. It is known that, if you have brown or hazel eyes, darker shades of brown will look great on you. If you have blue or grey eyes, hair colors with cooler tones like light gold or ash work well.

Finally determining the correct hair colour shade for yourself:

  • If you have light skin, opt for a medium brown or brown with red tones. If you have medium skin, opt for a medium brown, like a caramel or auburn. Stay clear of neutral shades and blondish shades.
  • If you have dark skin, opt for dark shades of brown like an espresso. Stay clear of shades that are more than two shades lighter than your natural color.
  • Never forget to keep your colour type in mind as you consider shades. Always remember to choose a shade that complements your colouring type. Choose a warm shade if your natural colouring is cool and choose a cool shade if your natural colouring is warm.
