Hair Prep 101
After a spell of sleepless nights and overthinking, you’re finally determined to colour your hair and embrace a new you! More power to you. Since it’s quite a step you’re about to take, we’ve tried to make life simpler for you by breaking the pre-colouring process down to the basics.
Your hue and you!
Be 100% sure about the shade you pick because your hair makes a huge impact on your overall image. If you’re colouring your hair to cover greys, use more natural shades that blend with your hair. If you want to change your look however, trying a burgundy or natural brown hair colour would be great!
Prep your at-home spa
All you need is the shade of your preference and 30 minutes! We always suggest keeping some extra colour handy though! Make sure you have gloves, an old shirt that you could wear, a towel and a wide tooth comb.
Ask your skin for permission first…
Conduct a hypersensitivity test 48 hours prior to the day you have decided to colour your hair. This can be done by mixing a small amount of the developer, crème and applying it at the back of your ear using a Q-tip and look out for any skin irritations.
..And then prep it!
Prevent rubbing the colour on your skin. To remove colour from your skin’s surface by prepping it—especially the hairline—with petroleum jelly.

On the day you decide to colour your hair at home, mix equal amounts of developer and crème in a non-metallic mixing bowl and mix them together with a non-metallic hair colouring brush.
